Not all marijuana strains are the same, and that’s important to know

On Behalf of | Mar 30, 2022 | Cannabis Law |

Those working in the cannabis industry know well that not all strains of marijuana are going to be exactly the same as others. The differentiation between any two types is not just branding. Very different strains are always being created.

In fact, some reports claim that there are already more than 1,000 different varieties from which to choose. Moreover, because new ones are being created, there could potentially be hundreds more every year. Some of the variations may be small, but it still alters the plant and may affect the way that users experience it.

All of this is only going to become a bigger issue as the legality of marijuana continues to spread across the United States. If there is ever a scenario where it is legal at the state level in all 50 states and at the federal level, one can imagine that there will be a lot more specialization with the different types of strains that are being created as brands try to get an edge.

This is why patents are so important

As this develops moving forward, it’s going to become very very important for those who have created these strains to have the proper patents and protections in place. Having a strain that is specifically desired over other types could give someone a larger market share than they would ever reach otherwise. This is already a billion-dollar industry and it’s only growing.

If you work in this industry, or if you’re thinking about getting into it in the future, take the time to consider the legal steps needed to protect all of your sensitive information
